Steve Armfield

Steve Armfied is our Senior Minister.  Steve grew up in Portland, Oregon and moved to southern California to attend Westmont College in Santa Barbara and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.  For 46 years he has served in the Evangelical Covenant Church, pastoring in Santa Barbara, California (1971-1974); Red Wing, Minnesota (1974-1979) and in 1979 Steve and his wife, Janet planted the Thornapple Congregation in SE Grand Rapids where he served as pastor for the next 30 years retiring in 2009. 

Steve and Janet have made their home in Grand Rapids since 1979 and have three grown children;

Daughter, Lindsay Small who currently serves as Minister of Discipleship and Congregational Life at Fellowship Reformed Church in Holland Michigan. 

Son, Matthew who is a physician at the University Children Hospital University of Minnesota specializing in Pediatric Pain Management

and Palliative Care.

Son, Benjamin who is  Vice President of Operations at Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital, Fresno California.

The Armfield's also have four fabulous grand children, three in Holland and one  in California.


Bill Bode


Bill Bode is our Director of Church Business Affairs.  Bill is a passionate advocate for children and loves to share stories of character and faith found in history books, but rarely heard about in school.  Bill loves to read, mostly history.

Tammy Looman

Tammy Looman is our church Administrative Assistant. Tammy grew up at Second Church, where faithful teachers helped plant the seeds of her faith. In her free time, Tammy enjoys reading, writing, kayaking, and being a doting grandmother.

Shelley Plambeck


Shelley Plambeck is our Church Bookkeeper.  When not working, Shelley likes to run races, triathlons and loves to garden.

Barbara Dulmage

Barbara Dulmage is our Director of Music Ministries.  Barbara holds a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Organ degrees from the University of Kansas, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where she also completed course requirements for the master’s program in choral conducting. 

Barbara has served multiple denominations in the East and Midwest. In addition to her church career, she has served as Artistic Director for Toledo’s community GLBT chorus, Sing Out Toledo!, and also acted as Artist-in-Residence for Park College in Kansas City, Missouri, where she taught organ and related courses, and served as College Organist.

Barbara also enjoys her roles as licensed massage therapist, certified clinical hypnotherapist, and Soul Coach. She also enjoys reading, traveling, cooking and sewing, among other activities.
